And thank you for being here! It means a lot to me that you stopped by. I hope you will find my advice and resources very helpful to you. The fact you are here shows that you are ready to make a big change in your life, whether or not you even realize it now. First and foremost please know that you are not alone.
Addiction is serious, scary and even dangerous. Most every person on the planet has either been affected directly by addiction, (whether they have experienced it on their own, or known someone who has experienced it), or they know someone who knows someone.
Addiction for everyone involved can be very painful. We do things we are not proud of and even regret. It is a disease and alters our minds. Learning to live in a new way is a journey, and it is not always going to be easy, but I do promise you that it will be worth it.
Whether your addiction is tobacco, drugs, medication, alcohol, or some other form for you personally, and while having addiction may always be a part of you since it is a part of your past, there IS a way to live a better and healthier life and live in the better version of yourself.
My best advice when it comes to addictions is, while there will always be that part of you that has that addiction, we need to form a life and habits around them to keep ourselves healthy, (mentally, physically, and emotionally), and distance ourselves as best as possible from situations where these triggers will arise.
We are smart, we know ourselves, and we know most of the time situations that could come up from the life we are used to living, that can test our new commitment and new habits we are working on implementing into our new lifestyle. And believe me, we WILL be tested! We need to stay away from those situations first and foremost as best as we can. This may include getting out of a toxic relationship, ending lifelong friendships, (or at least putting them on hold so you can better yourself), etc. I even moved across the country to get away from the drugs and memories I was surrounded with that kept me in the same dark place.
It does take more than just moving or ending unhealthy relationships, but from my own experience that is one of the biggest and most important first steps. Of course if you are in danger, do what you need to do to be safe, get help, and plan, visualize and look forward to your future and the new you. Not really even the new you, but the REAL you.
And always remember, you are not alone.
